Name: 2019 Ribbon Cutting for TREA
Date: May 4, 2019
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
Ribbon Cutting for the grand opening of The Enlisted Association (TREA)!

Humble beginnings right here in Colorado Springs that started on February 12, 1963 as the “Retired Enlisted Men’s Meeting” and 56 years later has blossomed into a National organization with Chapters in 19 states and Puerto Rico after the United States Congress approved a National Chapter for TREA, The Retired Enlisted Association on October 23, 1992.  TREA started all because two Retired Veterans George Skonce and Dean Sorell saw the deterioration of benefits promised to Enlisted Veterans’ being whittled away and wanted to do something to preserve that.

Nationally, and now known as "The Enlisted Association, TREA continues to fight to preserve existing rights and lobbies to improve the quality of life and benefits for those that served this great nation on Capitol Hill and in Appropriations Committees.

Locally, we are involved with several Veteran events and causes, strongly supporting the new Pikes Peak Veterans Cemetery, the Veterans Day Parade, and our chapter facilities host other Veteran Non-Profits for events and meetings.   Additionally, we work closely with these and other Veteran non-profits to help our active duty service members as well as veterans to give them the support and aid they need through a resource network.  We have a Veteran Service Officer on staff to help process VA Claims for disability ratings, we provide a safe place to come and get help, without being judged.  We are here to help.

We also provide a variety of family friendly social events scheduled throughout the year, such as Dart Tournaments and craft fairs and our summer picnic.  We also plan to offer computer classes for our members that might be a little intimidated by technology, as well as resume writing classes and job networking opportunities for younger veterans that come through our doors.  Most of all, we offer a place where Veterans are understood, feel welcome, and can be around people that can relate to their life experiences in an environment that responds positively to them.
