Topic: Does Health = Wealth? How Prevention Works

Take a minute to consider what healthy means to you. What would happen if you were unble to access your basic needs? This Chamber Connect will highlight the role that public health plays in the life of every citizen of El Paso County. Discover how important social factors are in maintaining your quality of life and how where you live may be more important than your genetic makeup.

Biographies

Dan Martindale is the El Paso County Public Health Director and has been with the department for 22 years. He has more than 30 years of experience in public health and non-profit management.

Mr. Martindale serves on several community, state, and national boards. Locally, he is on the boards of the Joint Initiatives for Youth and Families (JI) and Community Health Partnership (CHP). He is also on the Colorado Association of Local Public Health Officials (CALPHO), representing Colorado’s local public health agencies, and is on the Health Committee for the National Association of Counties, (NACo) a national organization representing county governments.

Mr. Martindale holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Mina Liebert is the El Paso County Public Health Planner.  She oversees the accreditation process for the first accredited health department in the state of Colorado – which includes managing a collaborative network of community partners, leading a Community Health Assessment process to inform the development of a Community Health Improvement Plan, and build accountability within the agency through quality improvement efforts. Mina has worked passionately in the area of public health and health promotion, focusing on community based health and wellness initiatives for the last 16 years.

Mina holds a Master’s Degree in Community Health Education and Health Promotion and is also a Master Certified Health Education Specialist. She has lived in Colorado since 2001 and stays busy raising her two young children with her husband, while being actively involved in her community serving on numerous boards and committees. Mina is currently the Chair of the City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Advisory Board.
